XAT Exam Pattern

XAT stands for Xavier Admission Test which is conducted every year. This test is taken by all those who desire to take admission in Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI) in post graduate management programs. XAT score is accepted by more than 30 B Schools all over the country.

XAT Test Pattern : The XAT exam pattern is slightly different each year. Recently the pattern is as follows -

There will be multiple choice questions (Objective type). There will be 4 answers to a question & you have to select the correct one & mark it. The duration will be 120 mins ( 2 hrs.) & 20 mins extra for essay writing. Each question will be of 1 mark. Also there is negative marking i.e. for every incorrect answer upto first 5 questions 1/3 mark will be deducted & for more than 5 incorrect answers in each section 1/2 mark will be reduced. There will be 3 sections as-

a. Reading Comprehension & English – There will be 40 questions in this section. 4 passages will be given, on the basis of which 3 – 7 questions will be asked. The remaining questions will be on the basis of grammar, vocabulary & jumbled sentences.

b. Quantitative Ability -  44 questions are asked under this section. Questions will be based on trigonometry, coordinate geometry, functions, permutation & combinations, equations, logs, number system, data sufficiency, probability, integration, differentiation etc.

c. Data Interpretation & Reasoning – 43 questions are there in this section which are based  on 2- dimensional data, line graph, pie chart etc.

At the end, extra 20 mins are allotted to write an essay of 250 – 300 words on topics ranging from those of social relevance to propositions to abstract.
