NEET 2011
NEET which is also known as national eligibility cum entrance test, is a common entrance test on all India level for admission into medical colleges. Till 2010, there were various medical entrance exams which were conducted state wise or even separate exams for specific colleges but from 2011, Government has designed one common entrance test ( NEET ) for admission on all medical colleges including private colleges. AIIMS, AFMC and post graduate institute of medical education and research have been exempted from this exam as they have been setup by different laws.
Only a single merit list will be created for 35000 MBBS seats across the country which will also show state, minorities and SC/ST quota. Selected candidate will be eligible to take admission in any of the college depending on his merit rank. Though management seats have been kept out of this exam but MCI is insisting colleges to fill these seats also as per the merit list.
For students, NEET has both pros and cons. Pros are that now they don’t need to spend lots of money for applying to different exams, also it put lots of burden on students to prepare for these exams as sometimes they have different exam pattern and syllabus. On the contrary cons is that now students have only chance, if they fail to perform in this exam then they have to wait for next year to get admission in any medical college
