National Eligibility Test NET is conducted by University Grants Commission UGC & Council of Scientific & Industrial Research CSIR, twice every year. UGC NET is held for 93 applied science/non-science subjects. CSIR NET is held for 5 pure science subjects.

CSIR NET Exam Pattern : It is a written test consisting of 2 papers. Paper I & Paper II. Each paper is of 2 1/2 hours. In between the 2 papers there is break of 1 1/2 hours. Each paper is of 200 marks.

Paper I – It consists of 2 parts. Part A is common to very one but part B is according to your choice of subject. All the questions are objective type. There are 40 questions in part A & 100 in part B. But you have to solve only 25 questions in part A & 75 questions in part B. Wrong answers are allotted negative marks.

Paper II – This is a descriptive test. The subjects with the pattern in each is different which is as follows -
a. Earth Sciences – In this subject, 6-42 questions are given but you have to solve only 10 questions which are of 20 marks each.
b. Mathematical science – Again there are 39-46 questions but you need to attempt only 10 question.
c. Chemical Sciences – In this, 35-40 questions are there in total. Out of these, first question is of 20 marks which is compulsory. Out of remaining questions, you need to answer only 12 questions of 15 marks each.
d. Life Sciences – This also follows the same pattern as Chemical sciences. There will be 39-46 questions. Out of these, first question is of 20 marks which is compulsory. Out of remaining questions, you need to answer only 12 questions of 15 marks each.
e. Physical Sciences – In this, there are two parts. Part A has 10 questions, out of which, you need to answer 8 of 15 marks each. Part B has 20 questions. You have to answer again 8 questions of 15 marks each.
