Biotechnology is a branch of applied biology. It is based on the living organisms and bioprocesses in technology, medicine, engineering and some other fields also that require bio-products. In this various methods are used which modify the living organisms according to the requirements and purposes of human beings.

It is based on pure biological sciences. But sometimes other some methods and techniques are used which are outside the sphere of biology.

Biotechnology has emerged as a very good field with much scope. There are graduate and post graduate courses in this.
