Bioinformatics National Certification BINC Examination

BINC Examination is conducted by the Pune University on the behalf of Biotechnology Department.  This is conducted to certify bioinformatics professionals who are self trained or trained formally. DBT has agreed to fund Research fellowships will be awarded to 15 BINC qualified Indian nationals to pursue Ph.D. in Indian Institutes/Universities.

This exam is conducted by Pune University along with six centres which are -

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi
  • West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata
  • North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong
  • Anna University, Chennai
  • Institute of Bioinformatics & Applied Biotechnology, Bangalore
  • University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad

BINC Eligibility Criteria : The candidate must be Graduate in Science, Agriculture, Veterinary, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering & Technology. Any type of formal training like diploma, degree or certificate in Bioinformatics is not required. Those are in Final year of Bachelor’s degree or International students, are also eligible to apply for the same.

BINC Exam Pattern : This consists of three papers.

  1. Paper I is objective type & consists of 100 questions of 1 mark each. The time allotted will be 2 hours.
  2. Paper II is of short answers type consisting of 15 questions of 150 marks. All the candidates will be given 3 hours for this paper.
  3. Paper III is Practical. There will be 2 questions of 100 marks. Candidates have to attempt this in 2 hours.

There is negative marking in Paper I. For every wrong attempt 0.25 marks will be deducted. Those who secure at least 40% marks in Paper I are eligible for Paper II & III.
